Christmas 2012 - - At the end of October, "Superstorm Sandy", although I thought that "Typhoon Sandy" had a certain ring to it, tore through New York with considerable damage in many areas.

I was lucky, in the northern area of Manhattan there was no seawater flooding and power outages were rare. We were without transport for some 3 days, but I used my bicycle to get to the office. Some were not so lucky and a loose pile of corrugated iron sheets was blown down our street, smashing into a Nissan and a Mercedes (seen here with a tarpaulin covering the missing windshield).
